KOLKATA: A group of Indian and Afghan players were involved in a scramble after the hosts recorded a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers at VYBK Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday.
The Indian team grabbed the crucial three points after beating Afghanistan 2-1 in a hard-fought Group D game in Kolkata. Sunil Chhetri struck his magic again with a whirling free kick (85′) but the Khorasan Lions pulled one back in three minutes from a free header from Zubayr Amiri (88′) before a prolific strike from Sahal Abdul Samad ( 90+2′) sealed the deal for the Blue Tigers.

After losing the match, the Afghan players expressed their frustration with India. In a video widely shared on social networks, we can first see three Afghan players and two Indian players pushing and jostling before the fight escalates. However, India goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh tried to appease the players on both sides but he too was pushed by the Afghan players.
Seeing the ugly scene, AFC officials rushed to the ground but the fight only escalated. It is not known why the fight broke out. The AFC Asian Cup Qualifying Organizing Committee has not said anything about the incidents.

Following the victory, Igor Stimac’s men will take on Hong Kong in their summit clash in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, with the stakes high for both teams.
