NEW DELHI: Singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Mansa district of Punjab on Sunday night.
Moose Wala was quickly taken to Mansa Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“Three people were taken to the hospital, of whom Sidhu Moose Wala had died. After giving primary care, the two injured people were referred to a higher institute for further treatment,” said Civil Surgeon Dr. Ranjeet Rai from Mansa Hospital.
Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, known as Sidhu Moosewala, was among 424 people whose security was removed by Punjab police on Saturday.
Moosewala had joined the Congress last year ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections.
Earlier, Moose Wala fought on the Congress ticket from Mansa seat and was defeated by AAP’s Dr. Vijay Singla.

Mansa Police Chief Superintendent Gaurav Toora said two cars intercepted Sidhu Moose Wala’s car following heavy gunfire in which he was repeatedly injured.
“Those present with him also suffered gunshot wounds and were referred to Patiala for further treatment,” Gaurav Toora said.
Preliminary investigation shows it to be a rivalry between gangs, Toora said, adding that Sidhu Moose Wala did not take his armored car and gunman today.
“The FIR is in the process of registering. We will take immediate action against the gangster and those involved,” he added.
No one will be spared, says Mann
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed shock afterwards and said no one would be spared.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by the horrific murder of Siddhu Moosewala. No one involved will be spared. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and fans across the world. I call on everyone to remain calm,” Mann said in a tweet.
The culprits will be punished most severely: Kejriwal
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the culprits responsible for Moose Wala’s death would receive the “severest punishment”.

“The murder of Sidhu Moosewala is saddening and shocking. I have just spoken to Punjab CM Mann sahib. The culprits will receive the most severe punishment. I ask everyone to stay strong and keep the peace. May God give peace to his soul,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
