Video of a Marine giving sips of water to smiling Afghan children went viral on Sunday for offering a brief glimmer of hope after the catastrophic fall of Kabul about a week ago.
Not much is known about the video or the exact date of its shooting. The Department of Defense did not immediately respond to an after-hours email from Fox News. The video shows the Marine smiling and having a leisurely moment with a small group of Afghans. He gestures to open wide for a sip, then pours the bottle into the mouths of the seemingly happy children.
“Who is this American soldier at the airport in Kabul in Afghanistan? He just hit the Internet,” tweeted Daniel Newman, the actor.
The Task & Purpose Twitter account has been one of the media outlets at tweet the video and identified the person as a Marine.
The scene at Kabul airport is still dangerous. At least seven Afghans have died in a panicked crush of people trying to enter Kabul International Airport, the British military said on Sunday, as thousands still tried to flee the country in a chaotic exodus a week after the Taliban takeover.
