The police registered three FIRs in this regard and arrested some 68 people. Over 5,000 people were included in the three FIRs, some named while others were unnamed.
Two of these FIRs were registered at Kereli Police Station while one at Khuldabad Police Station.
“So far, 68 people involved in the violence have been arrested since Saturday evening and efforts are underway to identify others using video recordings and CCTV footage of the incident so that d “Further arrests may follow,” said SSP Prayagraj Ajay Kumar.
When residents of riot-affected localities awoke on Saturday to find a large deployment of police backed by PAC and RAF personnel, not only on the main roads but even patrolling the narrow lanes.
The district administration had issued prohibition orders under Section 144 which prevented any large gatherings in the area in the run up to Friday prayers and which even now is in effect and has been enforced to prevent any gathering that could cause problems.
Most shops in the Atala area remained closed even as police implemented traffic diversions for commuters away from the affected area.
On Saturday, Lekhpal teams were spotted in troubled areas. Officials carried maps with them and identified the extent of houses from which rocks were blasted on Friday.
Meanwhile, people are repeatedly asked to ensure the peace. Four magistrates were also assigned to the affected and neighboring districts of the old town.
