During an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Trump said he “never thought she was going to bring this case because she didn’t have one.”

The lawsuit, stemming from James’ investigation, focused on whether Trump and his company improperly inflated the value of assets in the financial statements to obtain loans and tax benefits.

“They wanted to settle the matter. … It’s a ridiculous matter,” Trump said. “But I never thought she was going to take the case until I looked at her poll numbers.

“We’re definitely going to sue him, we’re going to be a real pain in the a–,” James once told a fan.

The misrepresentations included claiming Trump had cash on hand that he didn’t and ignoring restrictions that would impact property values, James said.

The attorney general said she believes the allegations also violate state and federal criminal laws and that her office is firing the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York and the IRS. The SDNY U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the matter.

James said the investigation only began after Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, told Congress that Trump had made false statements in statements to financial institutions.

Regarding his financial statements, Trump told Fox News Digital that his statement of financial position “has a disclaimer right at the beginning.”

“He’s extremely long and extremely loud, and he denies it, and he says, ‘Go out and check it out for yourself. Do your own work, don’t rely on it,'” Trump explained.

There are three levels of accounting review, sources told Fox News, with the statement of financial position being the lowest. A source explained that the statement is a preparation of what an individual thinks things are valued at.

The accountants said in the disclaimer that the statement of financial position was not an authorized document or the result of any audit, but rather prepared by an accounting firm in coordination with the Trump Organization. The disclaimer asks banks to do their own due diligence before approving a loan.

Asked about a possible settlement of the case, James said the doors to her office were open.
