A Russian diplomat reportedly resigned from his post in opposition to the “war of aggression unleashed by [President Vladimir] Putin against Ukraine” and “warmongering, lies and hatred” from the country’s foreign ministry.

Boris Bondarev’s resignation letter was published by UN Watch, which describes itself as a “non-profit organization dedicated to holding the United Nations accountable to its founding principles”.

“Those who engineered this war want only one thing: to stay in power forever, to live in pompous and tasteless palaces, to sail on yachts comparable in tonnage and cost to the entire Russian Navy, to enjoy unlimited power and total impunity,” he said. “To achieve this, they are ready to sacrifice as many lives as necessary. Thousands of Russians and Ukrainians have already died just for this.”

“Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not diplomacy. It is warmongering, lies and hatred. It serves the interests of the few, the very few who thus contribute to the isolation and degradation of my country,” he continued. “Russia has no more allies, and the only culprit is its reckless and ill-conceived policy.”
