The widow of Haitian President Jovenel Moise spoke for the first time on Saturday after her husband was shot dead by a team of assassins Wednesday morning in the beleaguered Caribbean nation.
“I am alive, thank God”, Martine Moïse said in Creole in a 2 minute recording that was posted on Twitter and broadcast on radio stations across Haiti. “But I love my husband Jovenel. We fought together for over 25 years. During all these years love radiated within the house. But suddenly the mercenaries came and bombarded my husband with bullets. . “
Moses, who is currently being treated in a Miami hospital for the injuries she sustained in the attack, also said “you know who the president was up against.”

“You have to be a notorious criminal without guts to assassinate a president like Jovenel Moïse with impunity without giving him the opportunity to speak,” she declared.

Authorities have already arrested 17 people, including several former Colombian soldiers and two men believed to be Americans of Haitian descent.
“They sent mercenaries to kill the president in his home with members of his family because of the roads, water, electricity and the referendum as well as the year-end elections so that he did not there is no transition in the country, ”Moïse said on Saturday.
