Sir Mick Jagger has tested positive for coronavirus, prompting the Rolling Stones to cancel their show in Amsterdam on Monday.

The singer, 78, started developing symptoms when he arrived at the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the Dutch capital earlier on Monday.

The band is currently on the Sixty Tour, which consists of 14 concerts in 10 countries across Europe.

A statement on behalf of the Rolling Stones said: “The Rolling Stones have been forced to cancel tonight’s concert in Amsterdam at the Johan Cruijff ArenA, following Mick Jagger’s testing positive after experiencing COVID symptoms at his arrival at the stadium.

“The Rolling Stones are deeply sorry for tonight’s postponement, but the safety of the audience, other musicians and the touring crew must come first.

“The show will be postponed to a later date.

“Tickets for tonight’s show will be honored for the rescheduled date. Expect more details.”

Sir Mick apologized to the band’s Dutch fans on Twitter.

He wrote: “I’m so sorry that we had to postpone the Amsterdam show on such short notice tonight.

“I have unfortunately just tested positive for COVID. Our goal is to reschedule the date as soon as possible and return as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Mick.”

Alongside guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, and Steve Jordan on drums, Sir Mick was scheduled to perform in Bern, Switzerland on Friday June 17 and in Milan, Italy on Tuesday June 21.

They also have an appearance in London on Saturday June 25.

Jordan is on tour with the band after the death of longtime drummer Charlie Watts.

Watts died on August 24, 2021 at the age of 80.

The band made their return to the UK stage at Anfield football stadium last Thursday and are also set to play two gigs at BTS Hyde Park in London this summer.
