‘Saturday Night Live’ star Michael Che backed Chris Rock’s decision to return to stand-up comedy after the infamous Oscars moment.

Che admitted he was “annoyed” after Will Smith slapped Rock onstage at the 2022 Academy Awards.

The comedian noted that Rock had to present the award after being slapped.

“One of the things that bothered me was that when it was happening, people were like, ‘Well, now he’s selling tickets,'” Che told Howard Stern. “Yeah, he had a fancy act he wanted to pitch to people. And now people are buying tickets to hear him talk bullshit — that he has no interest in even talking about.”

He continued, “And I think for a long time that’s probably why he didn’t talk about it. Because he just wanted to get the story over with. He had an act, he was ready for something else. And now he’s just hijacked his show. It pissed me off.

Stern also asked Che if he was worried about performing on stage after the Oscars slap.

“I try not to think about it,” he told Stern. “I try not to think about it on stage because it creates tension that’s not really fun.”

“For me, acting is like sex,” Che continued. “It’s like trying not to think about the horrors. It sort of spoils the mood. It was a weird thing. I felt like we lost a hero that day.”
