Danielle Herrington had no idea she was pregnant as she posed for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
Four days after wrapping up her photoshoot in January, the 28-year-old learned she was expecting her first child.
“I was honestly in shock,” the model told PEOPLE (the TV show!) Thursday. “It was like pure shock and a little terrified. I had no idea.”
Herrington said she even did seven home pregnancy tests to be sure “because I couldn’t believe it.”
“I’m telling you, I was so shocked,” Herrington recalls. “I was like, ‘No, I need to be sure. I need to be sure.'”

On June 1, the star announced on Instagram that she was expecting a “baby boy to come” with boyfriend Geron McKinley.
“I’m a few days away from being eight months pregnant, so now I’m a little tired,” the mom-to-be told the magazine. “I’m always tired no matter what I do. If I’m doing the dishes and making breakfast, I’m like ‘OK, I need a nap.’ It’s like that now, but otherwise I’m fine. “
Herrington, who appeared on the cover of SI Swimsuit in 2018, said she was “happy to be back” for this year’s issue, which hits newsstands July 19.
“… It was a little chilly, I think that was probably the only challenge, but I was so happy to be there and to feel a sense of normalcy,” Herrington said of her photoshoot in Florida. “I wouldn’t say it was difficult. I was just happy to be back.”

“I really felt like I had to bring it just because I felt like it had been a while, but I feel like I have to bring it to every shoot,” he said. she shared, adding that “every year you become more confident” in front of the camera.
In 2017, Herrington told Fox News she was “really nervous” for her first SI shoot, which took place in Fiji.
“Do you know how nervous you are that your knees are shaking? It was me,” she said at the time. “SI was my first big job as a model, so I really felt the pressure inside me… But on the morning of the shoot I woke up around 4 am and I just couldn’t eat. just had a little coffee. I was too nervous to eat… We then took a boat to a little island, that’s where they shot “Castaway.” And honestly once we got started I felt so comfortable, super confident and sexy. We got off some great shots. “
Herrington said she was grateful to be part of a brand that continues to celebrate all body types.

“It’s part of something bigger,” she said. “I feel like the industry is diversifying with body types. I’m really curvy. I’m not tall, but it can be difficult because sometimes I’m just too chubby for certain things or not. pretty round. But SI has all body types around. “
