Shooting World Cup: India win team gold in women’s 10m rifle | More sports news



NEW DELHI: India’s 12-member squad opened at the ISSF Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan with gold in the women’s 10m rifle team competition in compressed air Tuesday. The trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Ramita and Shreya Agrawal outscored Denmark 17-5 in the gold medal match.
They had reached the gold medal round after two qualifying rounds on Monday. Denmark, represented by Anna Nielsen, Emma Koch and Rikke Maeng Ibsen, had beaten the Indian team in the round of 16, but the Indians rallied when it mattered most. Poland won bronze in the event.
India’s men’s air rifle team came up short in their bronze medal match against Croatia, losing 10-16. Here too, the roles were reversed since Rudrankksh Patil, Paarth Makhija and Dhanush Srikanth had beaten the Croats in the round of 16.
India is fifth in the medal table with Serbia leading the standings with two gold medals and a total of four medals.
