Several people were shot dead in a supermarket in the US city of Buffalo, New York, police said.
The shooter was reportedly taken into custody following the attack on Saturday afternoon.
The number of people injured at Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue has not yet been released and their condition is not immediately known.
Police did not respond to a request for more details after the Buffalo Police Department posted a tweet.
Will G., a frozen dairy worker at Tops Supermarket, told the Buffalo News he entered the refrigerated section to put milk on the shelves about three minutes before the shooting.
“I just heard gunshots. Gunshots and gunshots,” he told the local newspaper. “It looked like things were falling apart.”
The worker hid in the section and other people joined him, he said, adding, “I hid. I just hid. I wasn’t going to leave this room.”
A large police presence closed off the area north of Jefferson Avenue at Northampton Street, Buffalo News reported. SWAT teams are on site.
Governor Kathy Hochul tweeted that she was “closely monitoring the grocery store shooting in Buffalo,” her hometown.
She said state officials have said they will help local authorities.
