Three Republicans from the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs (HSGAC) held a “roundtable” on border security on Wednesday during which they and several witnesses, including former officials of the Department of homeland security, blamed President Biden for the southwest border crisis.
“Why are we here?” Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wis., Has asked to start the event. “Senator Peters would not be holding a hearing.”
Senator Gary Peters, D-Mich., Is the Chairman of HSGAC. The committee held a full hearing in May on unaccompanied children at the border. And two subcommittees held hearings on border security in April and June. But HSGAC has not taken up the matter since then.
Peters’ office did not respond to a Fox News request for comment on Wednesday.
GOP LEGALS WARNING BIDEN’S ‘UNCONSTITUTIONAL’ ASYLUM RULE WILL FUEL RISE IN MIGRANTS AT THE BORDER
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., And HSGAC ranking member Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, also chaired the roundtable on Wednesday. Among the witnesses were former Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Tom Homan and former Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan.
Morgan and Homan have both alleged that the Biden administration – which oversaw a massive increase in border crossings under its watch – not only failed to secure the border, but took action that made matters worse.
“We now have a president, the first president in my life, who took office and intentionally unsecured the border,” Homan said. Homan added that Democrats “believe that by importing future Democratic voters, they will stay in power.”
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.

“What happens on the southwest border doesn’t stay on the southwest border,” Morgan added, noting that not only are many migrants traveling across the country, but also drugs and more.
Former border patrol chief Rodney Scott, who was forced to leave by the Biden administration for political reasons earlier this year, said people were “smuggling narcotics, criminals and terrorists” through the border “at will”.
Also present at the roundtable were Sabine Durden-Coulter and Virginia Krieger, who have lost children, they say, due to lax border security.
“An illegal alien killed my only child,” Durden-Coulter said in a car crash. “He was beaten up by an illegal foreign recidivist felon.”
“My daughter Tiffany died in 2015 from a single pill” supposed to look like the commercially available Percocet but which was in fact fentanyl, Krieger said, claiming it was probably fentanyl that had crossed the southwest border . “It’s a crisis that has gone under the radar… They are not addicted, they are just young people who have problems in their life but now they are dying.”

Morgan, Homan and Scott also lamented the transport of migrants from the border to the interior of the country, where many are being released. And they alleged that officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) base were losing faith in Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“Morale, I’m told, is at an all-time low among border patrol officers,” Morgan said.
Scott asked who thinks Mayorkas is lying about the situation at the border. All three lawmakers raised their hands.
“Okay, he has to resign,” Scott said.
