Sean Penn tests positive for COVID-19 after returning from war-torn Ukraine | English Film News

Sean Penn becomes the latest Hollywood star to test positive for COVID-19. The actor also had to skip the Directors Guild of America Awards after contracting the virus.

Penn had recently returned to the United States after completing his schedule of filming a documentary in Ukraine during the country’s current crisis.

According to media reports, director Paul Thomas Anderson announced that Penn tested positive for COVID-19 while receiving an honor that was to be given to him by Penn. Penn was to present the DGA Medallion to Anderson for directing his latest Oscar-nominated film “Licorice Pizza.” Incidentally, this movie features Sean Penn in a cameo. As Penn could not return the honor, his ex-wife Leila George presented the trophy to Anderson.

The 61-year-old actor had been filming a Vice documentary since the early days of the Russian invasion that forced more than 1.5million refugees to flee their homes amid so many casualties in war-torn Ukraine.

The Hollywood star joined thousands of Ukrainians trying to reach the Polish border in order to leave the country. Earlier this week, Sean had tweeted a photo of himself walking with a backpack and a trolley as many cars waited for safe passage to the neighboring country.
