Ruturaj Gaikwad equals Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become fastest Indian to score 1000 runs in IPL | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Chennai Super Kings fly-half Ruturaj Gaikwad on Sunday equaled legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s feat by becoming the fastest Indian to score 1,000 points in Indian Premier League history.
Gaikwad, who went 31 innings to reach the landmark, hit Sunrisers Hyderabad pacemaker Marco Jansen for a biggie on the first pitch of the sixth to hit the four-figure mark in the IPL.

The 25-year-old found his midas touch again with a belligerent 99 in the IPL match against SRH at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Gaikwad (99 from 57 balls), who won the Orange Cap last season, was at his destructive best breaking six sixes and as many fours before falling short of a deserving hundred by a single run.

Tendulkar and Gaikwad are followed by Suresh Raina (34 innings), Rishabh Pant (35 innings) and Devdutt Padikkal (35 innings) on the list.

Gaikwad continued to find the limits as SRH Malik’s sensational pacer was sent on a leather chase with the opener smashing him through cover before lifting him longer for another high.
