A Russian fighter jet deployed and accompanied a US military plane over the Barents Sea on Friday, military officials said.
The United States European Command (EUCOM) confirmed to Fox News that the two planes met and disengaged safely.
“Our planes interact regularly with Russian units in international airspace and most interactions are safe and professional,” a spokesperson for EUCOM told Fox News.
A MiG-31 fighter rushed to meet the American P-8A Poseidon fighter near the Russian border. The pair of planes stayed nearby until the American plane turned away.

The Russian hunter returned to his base after the Poseidon left.
No reason has yet been given for the presence of an American fighter jet along the Russian border, as EUCOM does not provide details on “safe and professional interactions”.

However, US planes regularly fly along the border, officials said.
The chief of US forces in North America recently said Russian bomber flights increased near Alaska, and a Russian defense minister also claimed US bomber flights increased near Russia.

Russian and American planes have already had some break-in this year.
A Russian fighter rushed to escort an American spy plane that was spotted over the Pacific Ocean. No specific date for the incident has been provided; it was reported around mid-April.
Just four days ago, Russia also sent a fighter jet to accompany a US B-52H bomber over the Baltic Sea, Reuters reported.
