‘RHOC’ alum Kelly Dodd faces backlash for comparing Texas shooting to 9/11

Real Housewives of Orange County alum Kelly Dodd is facing backlash after comparing the shooting at a school in Ulvade, Texas to 9/11 on Saturday.

Dodd, 46, shared an image on Twitter which read, “After 9/11, we didn’t ban airplanes. We secured cockpits. Secured schools.”

His Twitter post was quickly filled with angry responses from various users. One user wrote: “Would you rather schools look like prisons than reform gun laws…uhm ok. It won’t traumatize kids, to have constant reminders that adults have left them to fall.”

Another user noted that since the 9/11 terrorist attack, many more security measures have been instilled at airports across America.

“After 9/11, we banned people from bringing dangerous items on planes. In the same way, we can ban people from accessing and carrying dangerous items that continue to kill people so frequently in airplanes. schools,” the user wrote.

Another user replied, “Your lack of empathy and understanding is obvious. Didn’t you see the videos of the shooter in the school because the police and security were too afraid to enter? There is no “No reason for automatic weapons. Just have a gun and require a background check – what’s wrong with that?”

After the backlash, Dodd clarified his tweet.

“I NEVER said we shouldn’t have STRONGER gun laws,” she began. “I believe we should be doing a BETTER job of keeping WEAPONS out of the hands of CRIMINALS and the MENTALLY ill.”

Dodd continued, “In the meantime, even though these people have WEAPONS AND CAN STILL BUY THEM, we need to PROTECT OUR CHILDREN BETTER.”

The former reality TV star has made controversial comments in the past regarding the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, which ultimately led to his being fired from ‘RHOC’ last summer.

His post comes days after a teenager opened fire inside a Texas elementary school on Tuesday, killing 19 children and two teachers. The shooter was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. Some names of those killed began to emerge on Tuesday, often accompanied by photos of smiling children.

Kelly Dodd is no stranger to controversial comments.  She was fired from the Real Housewives of Orange County after making comments about the coronavirus pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.

The shooter was later identified as Salvador Ramos.

Two police officers were injured in an exchange of gunfire with Ramos but had to survive.

“Texans across the state mourn the victims of this senseless crime and the community of Uvalde. Cecilia and I mourn this horrific loss, and we urge all Texans to come together to show our unwavering support for all who are suffering.” , Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement, referring to his wife Cecelia.
