Rapper Young Thug has been arrested for involvement in criminal street gang activity.
The hip-hop entertainer, real name Jeffery Lamar Williams, was one of 28 people charged in a sweeping indictment that centers on YSL, or ‘Young Slime Life’, an alleged street gang that s is formed in Atlanta in 2012.
Some of the others have been charged with violent crimes, including murder, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery.
Young Thug, who won a Grammy for songwriting for Childish Gambino’s 2019 hit This Is America, is one of three founding members of YSL, according to the indictment.
The group allegedly claims to be affiliated with the national Bloods gang.
Young Thug is charged with two counts: conspiracy to violate the state of Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act and participation in criminal street gang activity.
According to prosecutors, the 30-year-old’s alleged gang activity took place between May 12, 2018 and May 8, 2022.
Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, said he was innocent and would be exonerated.
“Mr. Williams has committed no violation of the law whatsoever,” he said.
“We will fight this case ethically, legally and with zeal. Mr. Williams will be exonerated.”

Fulton County Jail records show the Grammy-winning rapper was jailed on Monday.
A release date has not been indicated.
The Fulton County prosecutor’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Young Thug is known for albums like Punk, which was his third to debut at number one in the US when released last year.
The Atlanta native has appeared in two versions of the Fast and Furious movie franchise.
