NEW DELHI: President Draupadi whispered has arrived in London where she is due to attend the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and offer her condolences on behalf of the Indian government. The president left for London on Saturday.
Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 at her summer residence at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8, will be buried on Monday at Westminster Abbey.
“President Draupadhi Murmu embarks for London, United Kingdom, to attend the state funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and offer her condolences on behalf of the Government of India,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan had tweeted with a photo of Murmu.
Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar had visited the British High Commission here on September 12 to convey the country’s condolences.
India also observed a day of national mourning on Sunday.
During the 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, relations between India and the United Kingdom have evolved, prospered and grown enormously.
She played an important role in the well-being of millions around the world as head of the Commonwealth, the Department of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
