Pentagon revises data on death toll in Kabul, including fallen army soldiers

The US Department of Defense on Thursday evening revised its descriptions of servicemen who were killed in the Kabul airport attack in Afghanistan on Thursday.

The death toll for the U.S. military remained at 13, but Defense Department officials told Fox News the number now stands at 10 Marines, two Army soldiers and a member of the corps. the Navy killed in the attack.

The revised information corrected a previous breakdown that said 12 Marines and one Marine Corps member were dead.

The attack was the deadliest day for the U.S. military in over 10 years. In addition to those killed, at least 18 servicemen were injured, military officials said.

None of the deceased soldiers was immediately identified by the Defense Ministry. It is customary for defense officials to withhold the names of deceased servicemen until family members are contacted.

Thursday’s attack was the deadliest day for U.S. troops since insurgents in Afghanistan shot down a U.S. Chinook helicopter in August 2011, killing 38 people, including 31 U.S. soldiers.
