The Millat Express derailed and the Sir Syed Express train struck it shortly after, said Usman Abdullah, a police officer from Ghotki district in Sindh province, where the collision occurred.

The cause of the derailment and the collision that followed was not immediately clear.
Train accidents are common in Pakistan, where successive governments have paid little attention to improving poorly maintained signaling and aging tracks.
