Newcastle v Tottenham: Premier League game briefly suspended due to crowd medical emergency

With Spurs leading 2-1, fans at the St James’ Park East Stand alerted players to the incident in the crowd.

Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon could be seen addressing referee Andre Marriner, pointing the bleachers.

His teammate Eric Dier sprinted across the field in an attempt to have a defibrillator transferred to the other side of the field by a physiotherapist.

After a brief delay, Marriner withdrew both groups of players from the field while the person continued to receive medical treatment.

The Premier League noted on Twitter that: “The game was interrupted due to a medical problem in the crowd.”

Newcastle have provided an update on the health of the fans after a short break with players ready to resume.

‘Supporter who needed emergency medical assistance has been stabilized and is on his way to hospital’, Newcastle noted on Twitter. “Our thoughts are with them.”

After a brief warm-up on the pitch, the first half resumed with seven minutes of added time, Newcastle wrote on Twitter.

Tottenham ultimately won the game 3-2, with Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min scoring.
