Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Accuses Attorney General Merrick Garland of inaction against protesters who flocked to the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh last week following an alleged assassination attempt on his life.

In a letter sent Tuesday to Garland, Hawley expressed concern that despite protests outside Kavanaugh’s home and an increase in pro-abortion attacks on pregnancy resource centers, no meaningful action has been taken. was taken. Federal law states that picketing judges’ homes for the purpose of intimidating them or influencing their decisions is illegal.

“To quell this wave of violence, you must immediately rise up and enforce the law, prosecute those who break it, and condemn the violent rhetoric coming from the left,” Hawley wrote.

Nicholas Roske, 26, of California, was arrested on Thursday for allegedly conspiring to kill Judge Kavanaugh over what he expected to be Kavanaugh’s ruling on a Supreme Court case that could potentially decide the fate of Roe v . Wade. Later that evening, protesters demonstrated loudly outside Kavanaugh’s home with chants and drums.

Hawley suggested tensions go even further, pointing to remarks by Senator Chuck Schumer on the Supreme Court steps in March 2020, telling Kavanaugh, “You’ve unleashed the whirlwind, and you’ll pay the price. You won’t know not what hit you if you go ahead with these horrible decisions.”

Hawley further accused other Democratic officials of instigating “unlawful activity against the judges,” in violation of federal law.

“All of this rhetoric not only emboldens the man who tried to kill Judge Kavanaugh, but also the radicals who have attacked pregnancy resource centers across the country,” Hawley said, adding, “When Democratic officials openly say it’s okay to flout the law and commit crimes, radicals take notice. That’s why it’s so outrageous that within hours of the assassination attempt, your office did not immediately arrest illegal picketers surrounding Judge Kavanaugh’s home in yet another attempt at intimidation.

Hawley ended his letter by asking the Attorney General to provide a full account of why his office did not arrest protesters outside Kavanaugh’s home and why “you are dragging your feet arresting felons for burning down centers.” of pregnancy resources across the country.
