Miranda Lambert had to say a tough farewell on Thursday.
The 37-year-old country crooner took to Instagram to announce the passing of her dog Jessi.
She shared a number of photos of the happy dog, including several of her puppy days, as well as a more recent photo of Jessi snuggling up to her famous owner.
“Today we had to say goodbye to our sweet Jessi,” Lambert captioned the post. “I must love her and be her mother for 13 and a half years.”

She then took a moment to think about how Jessi came into her life.
“I found her with her brother Waylon on the side of the road in Oklahoma in January 2008 in the middle of a sleet snowstorm. They were 6 weeks old,” recalls the “Bluebird” performer. “My mom was in the truck with me and we were listening to the ‘I am Jessi Colter’ album. That’s how they got their names.”

Waylon, the second dog, died in October, but Lambert said the two “belong together” and “always have been.”
“I know she missed him terribly and we are so grateful that we had more time. Today they are gathered on the Rainbow Bridge,” the star wrote. “We sent her back with the song ‘Storms Never Last’ from the same record she heard play the first time I put it in my truck.”
Lambert was unable to “put into words what the love of a dog does to a heart,” but insisted that dog owners know what she is referring to.

“Special thanks to the amazing team at @animaliawellness @vrsmtn for taking such good care of these two and all of our other furry babies. You have all given us extra years that we wouldn’t have had with Jessi and Way and I ‘I’m so grateful,’ she concluded. “And to @sarahananney @julianentwig for being his other moms. It’s so hard to let them go but the love is worth it. #Scue #dogmom @muttnation.”
