The government has temporarily relaxed airport slot rules to allow airlines to avoid last-minute cancellations due to staff shortages.

He said airlines would be given a short window to return slots they are unsure of being able to exploit for the rest of the summer season.

“This will help passengers find alternative arrangements in advance, rather than dealing with the kind of last-minute cancellations seen during the Easter and mid-term holidays,” a spokesperson said.
