Meghan Markle’s former childhood boyfriend doesn’t believe the Duchess of Sussex harassed palace assistants during her tenure as a working royal.
Joshua Silverstein told Us Weekly on Thursday that he did not “see her personally” mistreating royal staff, as a March 2 report from the UK Times claims.
“I see her doing whatever she wants to do to be happy and coexist in a system that has probably not been very welcoming to who she is and where she is from,” he told the media.
“When you find women of color – especially black women – who stand up for themselves and speak up and speak out against what they feel [is] lack of respect or oppression, often the whiteness tends to categorize it negatively because they don’t want it to happen, “he continued.” It’s almost like people are supposed to know their niche and whenever they don’t match that then people say it’s a problem. “

“She probably has to make some tough decisions and some uncomfortable decisions just to be able to smile the next day,” he said. “This is life – making tough decisions so you can live the life that allows you to thrive as the person you want to thrive with.”
“As long as she’s happy and he’s happy, that’s all that matters,” he added.

“The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, especially as someone who has been bullied herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have suffered pain and trauma,” said a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in a statement sent to Fox News on March 3.
“She is determined to continue her work of promoting compassion in the world and will continue to strive to lead by example in doing what is right and doing what is right,” the statement added.
According to the Times, the complaint was first filed in October 2018, by Jason Knauf, the couple’s former communications secretary. The complaint alleged that the former American actress kicked two personal assistants out of the house and undermined the trust of a third staff member.
The outlet reported that Knauf filed the complaint in an attempt to protect palace staff who claimed to have been intimidated by Markle. Some claimed that they were even reduced to tears.

A royal assistant reportedly told a colleague: “I can’t stop shaking.”
A source alleged that Harry, 36, begged Knauf not to follow up on the complaint. However, lawyers for the couple deny that the meeting took place or that Harry interfered with staff questions.
The outlet said Knauf allegedly emailed Simon Case, who was then Prince William’s private secretary. The email was then forwarded to Samantha Carruthers, Human Resources Manager. In the email, Knauf claimed that Carruthers “agreed with me on all points that the situation was very serious”, adding: “I remain concerned that nothing will be done”.
A Sussex spokesperson hit back at the allegations.

“Let’s just call it what it is – a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful disinformation,” the spokesperson told the outlet.
“We are disappointed to see this slanderous portrayal of the Duchess of Sussex credible by a media,” continued the spokesperson. “It is no coincidence that distorted, years-old accusations of undermining the Duchess were being reported to the British media shortly before she and the Duke spoke openly and honestly about their experience of these last years.”
Markle married Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson at Windsor Castle in May 2018. Their son Archie was born a year later.
On Valentine’s Day, the couple confirmed to Fox News that they were expecting their second child.
