U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn, RN.C. last week defended missing the most House votes of any first-year chamber member due to their honeymoon.
“It shows exactly what Democrats think about the nuclear family in America right now. I was doing the one thing I found more important than my service here in Congress, and that was my service as a husband,” said Cawthorn to Real America Voice Network Thursday, according to the Washington Times.
Cawthorn, 25, married Instagram influencer Cristina Bayardelle in a religious ceremony on April 3, the seventh anniversary of the car crash that left him partially paralyzed. The couple previously held a civil ceremony in December, the Times reported.

The two then took off for their honeymoon in Dubai.
Cawthorn admitted he missed a number of votes in the week he left, but said everything was “Democratic trash.”
The North Carolina congressman missed about 16.2% of the vote every 1 in 6, Axios reported.
Jamaal Bowman, DN.Y., had the worst vote record of any freshman Democrat, missing 2.8% of the vote.
During his four-day honeymoon, Cawthorn was out for 21 votes, The Times reported, citing nonprofit ProPublica. Some of the bills were sponsored by Republicans.
