Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., suggested Sunday that the Jan. 6 committee would subpoena Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, if she does not agree to testify voluntarily.

“Ginni Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, corresponded on several occasions with White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Trump attorney John Eastman who were pushing this deranged theory,” said CNN host Jake Tapper on Sunday as Cheney appeared on “State of the Union.”

“She was writing to them about efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, not to mention her correspondence with Arizona lawmakers pushing fake voters,” Tapper added. “Does your committee plan to speak to Ginni Thomas, even though her attorney has expressed an unwillingness to cooperate?”

“We are – the committee is engaged with her attorney. We certainly hope she will agree to come voluntarily. But the committee is fully prepared to consider a subpoena if she does not,” Cheney replied. “I hope it doesn’t come to that. I hope she comes voluntarily. We have certainly spoken with a number of people who are in the same situation in terms of the discussions she had that you mentioned. So it’s very important for us to talk to her. And like I said, I hope she will agree to do it voluntarily. But I’m sure we’ll consider a subpoena if she doesn’t. does not.

Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, also a conservative activist, was asked to speak to the Jan. 6 committee after her communications with Trump’s team were leaked before and on the day of the riot at the U.S. Capitol that occurred while Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s presidential victory.

In June, Ginni Thomas reportedly told The Daily Caller that she was looking forward to speaking with the committee and looking forward to “clearing up misconceptions” about her communications with Meadows and Eastman.

But a lawyer for Thomas later asked the committee for more information about why her testimony was needed, arguing it would serve as yet another “baseless harassment she has suffered since January 6”. In a letter to the committee, Thomas’ attorney Mark Paoletta said she never claimed to have direct knowledge of voter fraud and was “passing on information she heard from others.”

The attorney also noted how Ginni Thomas’ request to testify comes at “a particularly stressful time” as she and her husband “have been subjected to an onslaught of death threats and other abuse by the unprecedented assault Against Conservative Supreme Court Justices and Their Families.”
