Kim Kardashian reveals her decision to allow the producers of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” to speak about her famous sex tape in the pilot episode of the series in 2007.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Kardashian, 40, said in hindsight that she probably wouldn’t have addressed the scandal publicly if “KUWTK” hadn’t existed. Of course, the series has taken off and the producers have since rejoiced in its 20 seasons of longevity.
The family announced last September that the 20th season of “KUWTK” would be their last after 14 years on the air. A new Kardashian imprint is expected to hit Hulu in late 2021.
“I think obviously as producers I’m sure they loved it,” the new billionaire told The Times. “E Love you [us] want to talk about the elephant in the room. And I probably wouldn’t have, unless it was for the show. Sometimes I’m like, “OK, I know I should probably take care of this and be done with this. Someone is going to ask me, so I might as well go ahead and do it. ‘”

During the initial episode, Kardashian’s sister Kourtney, 42 – who family matriarch Kris Jenner said was the only “hesitant” to do the show – prepares her for an appearance on “The Tyra Banks Show.” “. When Kourtney asked her why she made the clandestine tape with singer and mogul Ray J, Kardashian replied, “Because I was horny and wanted to.”

A former executive of E! also fended off speculation that the family received the show due to the invaluable publicity the personal video had brought to the group.
“I think everyone’s like, ‘The sex tape made the show happen.’ It wasn’t about that at all, ”Lisa Berger, at the time executive vice president of the Original Programming and Series Development Network, told The Times.
“I remember Kim was at odds over this because she hated everything that was going on around this tape,” executive producer Farnaz Farjam also told the publication. “We all talked about ‘We just have to take on all the controversy around this family’ and jumped in with both feet in the first episode. Then audiences can get to know them on a much deeper level than they’ve been. tabloid headlines. ”
The series was produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions and its senior vice president of production and development, Eliot Goldberg, described the decision to approach the band from the start as simply “brilliant.”
WHAT IS THE NET WORTH OF THE KARDASHIAN-JENNER FAMILY?
“They knew they had to face the sex tape,” he said. “It was really great that if they took care of him at the top and put him to bed, they and the world could move on.”
Jenner, 65, also added that in her eyes there was no better opportunity for the family to step into reality TV stardom.
“Kourtney was a little hesitant. She said to me, ‘Wait, what do we do? Just let me wrap my head,'” explained the “mom.” “But everyone was so excited. I walked into this [production] meeting with a lot of confidence and anticipation that this was really going to happen. And I really felt like it was the movement for us as a family. “
