Following news that Kevin Spacey has been charged with four counts of sexual assault in the UK, the producers of one of his new Cannes-bought films have released a statement supporting the disgraced actor.
“While it’s unfortunate that the increase in negative press is timed with Kevin’s return to work, it’s also to be expected,” the ‘Peter Five Eight’ producers said in a statement to Variety. “There are those who wish he didn’t perform, but they outnumber the fans around the world who are waiting for an artist they’ve enjoyed for decades to return to the screen. The production has no acquaintance or comment on the various swirling allegations, and believe it to be a matter for the courts to determine its validity if it exists.”Peter Five Eight” is a movie for fans who care more about the art than the scandal.”

Spacey also has another film on the market at Cannes, “1242: Gateway to the West,” a historical drama about a holy man who tries to stop Genghis Khan’s army from invading Europe.
KEVIN SPACEY CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 3 MEN IN UK
Spacey’s charges were announced on Thursday by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which spent more than a year reviewing a file forwarded to them by the Metropolitan Police.
“The CPS has authorized criminal charges against Kevin Spacey, 62, on four counts of sexual assault against three men,” said Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS’s Special Crimes Division. “He has also been charged with causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without their consent. The charges follow a review of evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in their investigation. persons concerned that the criminal proceedings against Mr. Spacey are active and that he is entitled to a fair trial.”
At least some of the charges are believed to stem from Spacey’s time at the Old Vic theater in London, where he served as artistic director from 2004 to 2015. Following a cascade of sexual assault allegations against the actor in the States United, the theater embarked on an internal investigation which the BBC said resulted in 20 victims who claimed it had behaved inappropriately towards them.

The sexual assault and misconduct allegations against Spacey first came to light in 2017, when actor Anthony Rapp claimed Spacey made a non-consensual sexual advance to him when he was 14. Rapp then filed a sexual abuse lawsuit in New York, which is still pending. . Another lawsuit was filed in Massachusetts in 2018, but was dropped after the victim refused to testify. A civil suit filed in 2019 was also dismissed after the plaintiff died. Spacey has denied all allegations of sexual assault or misconduct.
