Biden administration “urging” migrant children to cross the southern border “the opposite of compassion,” Kayleigh McEnany, former White House press secretary and Fox News analyst Kayleigh McEnany told The Story on Tuesday .
MCENANY: If you think about what’s going on now, within 72 hours these kids are supposed to be transferred from [the Department of Homeland Security] at [Health and Human Services] as they strive to unite them with family members or relatives in the United States, which is a very complicated process, sometimes a long one. And there are real fears that, firstly, the overcrowding of facilities, where some facilities represent 323% of what they can contain in terms of capacity. It’s a fear. Of course, going to the border, being trafficked, is another fear. And then there is the fear of not really reuniting them with a parent or someone who can take care of them in our interior. So there are a lot of dangers here for children. It is the opposite of compassion to encourage this.
It’s very hard when you’ve been on the podium [like Jen Psaki] and said “we’re not going to send the kids away.” It stimulates the flow. This is what Republicans have called this common factor of increasing the number of children who come to the border, increasing the number of children who are going to be trafficked and victims of violence and ‘abuse. To be frank now is fine, but having previously said “we’re not firing anyone, we’re basically open for business here” is a troubling prospect that has gotten us to where we are now.
