Nearly 30 years after audiences first got a glimpse of Jurassic Park, the original cast members have finally returned for the last film in this franchise era.
Among them is Oscar winner Laura Dern, whose character, Dr. Ellie Satler, is beloved as a kind of feminist action hero.
“The fact that the character took on a larger-than-life quality in terms of influence for a lot of young girls in particular, and boys too, in the years since the movie came out was so inspiring to me,” said she declared. News from heaven.
“A congresswoman now in the US Congress [said] to me: ‘You know, Ellie Sattler was my feminist heroine and when I heard her say that women inherit the Earth, I thought to myself, I’m going to study poli-sci [political science]I’m going to Washington, DC.’
“It’s just amazing that the movie, Steven’s [Spielberg] work, and being a part of that could impact people like that. »
It wasn’t just the characters that inspired – for the new cast members, it was a treat to share the screen with the old guard.
“They’re also at the top of their game as actors,” said Bryce Dallas Howard, who returns as former park manager Claire Dearing. “They’re in their prime, and I think that’s something that as an actor, it was such a gift to be able to witness that.
“It was so inspiring to see that because it wasn’t like they were coming in and saying the lines, they were taking full ownership of these characters.”
Jurassic World Dominion is the third film in the Jurassic World trilogy, starring Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt, which began in 2015 – following the original Jurassic Park trilogy which began with Dern, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum in 1993.
It was largely filmed in the UK and was one of the first productions to get back up and running after the first lockdown.
A hotel was rented for the cast and crew to live in a bubble, an experience that Goldblum says will stick with him.
“It’s a disturbing, heartbreaking and tragic time – and for us, an opportunity and a mixed feeling, you can imagine. But with the opportunity to be together and protected by the new protocols pioneered by Alexandra Derbyshire , one of our British producers, and Pat Crowley, it was brilliant, but heartbreaking, bonding and unforgettable.”
Indeed, Goldblum credits the crews here for bringing the film to the big screen and says he wants to live here at some point.
“It was basically a British show, and thanks to them, we made it happen. Thanks to their heroism and fearless endurance.
“I’ve had a great time here – I love England and would love to move here for a while actually.”
The latest blockbuster to return to cinemas this summer, the film is billed as the last Jurassic Park yet – but if it pulls in big box office numbers, this franchise is unlikely to stay off for long. .
