Jose Mourinho: ‘It’s really special’ – Emotional Roma coach revels in more European glory after Europa Conference League triumph

Mourinho, who had already won the Champions League, Europa League and UEFA Cup, lifted a unique European trophy as Roma beat Feyenoord 1-0 in Ti to ensure he could add the Premier League Conference to his collection.

It’s been five European finals for Porto, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Roma since 2003 that Mourinho has coached and won the trophy five times.

“The great thing about my career is that apart from the Europa League with Manchester United, doing it with Porto, Inter and Roma is very, very, very special,” Mourinho said.

“It’s one thing to win when everyone expects it, when you’ve invested to win, but it’s another thing to win when something feels immortal, that feels really special.

“It remains in the history of Roma, but also of mine. I have been told that only me, Sir Alex (Ferguson) and Giovanni Trapattoni have won trophies in three different decades. It makes me feel a bit old, but it’s good for my career.”

It marked a fine end to his first season in the Italian capital for Mourinho, having led his side to a sixth-place finish in Serie A this season.

The Portuguese doesn’t intend to look for new challenges as he is already planning next season with the club.

“Now I stay, there is no doubt,” added Mourinho. “Even if some rumors emerge, I only want to stay at Roma.

“We have to understand what our owners, who are fantastic people, want to do next season because that’s history, but we can build a really solid project with honest professionals.

“Of course I feel like a Romanista, but maybe that’s the way I work. I’m a Porto fan, an Inter fan, a Chelsea fan, I’m crazy about Real Madrid, I am now a Roma fan, I belong to all these clubs because we had these moments together.”
