Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard to Hrithik Roshan vs. Kangana Ranaut: Biggest Celebrity Court Cases Over the Years

Closing arguments will take place in court today, ending the bitter multimillion-dollar libel case between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.

Lawyers will make their final jury calls after dozens of hours of testimony and six weeks of searing mutual accusations of domestic abuse between the celebrity couple. Judge Penney Azcarate is expected to return the case to the seven-person jury on Friday and the panel will be absent over the weekend and resume deliberations on Tuesday.

Depp filed a libel suit against Heard in Virginia for an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in December 2018 in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic violence.” Heard, born in Texas, did not name Depp in the article, but he sued her for implying he was a domestic abuser and is seeking $50 million in damages. She countersued for $100 million, claiming she suffered “endemic violence and physical abuse” at his hands.

Dozens of witnesses testified in the high-profile trial that began April 11, including bodyguards, Hollywood executives, agents, entertainment industry experts, psychiatrists, doctors, friends and relatives. Depp and Heard each spent days on the witness stand during the televised trial that drew hundreds of fans of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star to the town of Fairfax, near the US capital.
