IPL 2022: RR joins GT and LSG in the last four, RCB needs MI to beat DC | Cricket News

On Friday, the inaugural IPL champions, the Rajasthan Royals, became the third team to officially qualify for the playoffs with a 5-wicket win over CSK. With 18 points and an NRR of +0.298, RR finished second in the points standings, behind Gujarat Titans.
This means LSG have been pushed back to third, behind RR on NRR. LSG has an NRR of +0.251 and is also on 18 points. RCB is currently fourth with 16 points and an NRR of -0.253. They have played their 14 league matches.
And that means the equation for the Delhi Capitals, who play their final league game later today against MI and are currently 5th in the points table, is very simple.
Here’s how things are going on the morning of Saturday May 21 with just two matches left in the league stage now, one of which (SRH vs PBKS on Sunday) is dead rubber:
1) GT finished top of the points table with 20 points. They will play Qualifier 1 on May 24 in Kolkata
2) RR and LSG are second with 18 points, but RR finishes second due to a higher net run rate (+0.298). They will play in GT in qualifying 1 on May 24 in Kolkata
3) LSG finished third, behind RR on NRR (+0.251). They will play the Eliminator on May 25 in Kolkata against RCB or DC (whoever finishes fourth)
4) If DC wins against MI today they will be tied for fourth place with RCB on 16 points and qualify on a better NRR
5) If MI beat DC today, RCB will finish alone fourth and qualify
6) Sunday’s SRH-PBKS game has nothing to do with the playoff race with both teams eliminated
