IPL 2022: Injured Washington Sundar likely to miss next two Sunrisers Hyderabad games | Cricket News

NAVI MUMBAI: The versatile Washington Sundar will likely miss at least the next two IPL games for Sunrisers Hyderabad after suffering a split strap in his bowling hand, head coach Tom Moody has said.
A disciplined bowling effort followed by skipper Kane Williamson’s half-century helped SRH beat Gujarat Titans by eight wickets at DY Patil Stadium on Monday night.
During the match however, Washington got injured and was unable to play his full quota of overs. His three no-wicket overs – including two on the power play – lasted just 14 runs.
“Washington tore the strap in his right hand, between his thumb and forefinger. We have to watch that over the next two or three days. Hopefully it’s not a major blow. I imagine it would take probably a week or so to settle,” the SRH Moody coach said after the win.
In their next two upcoming outings, Sunrisers will face Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings on Friday and Sunday respectively.
Playing for a team that lacks spin bowling, Washington has been the Sunrisers’ only specialist tweaker so far this season.
Since giving up 47 runs in his three no-wicket overs against the Rajasthan Royals in his team’s opener, Washington has gone 4 for 63 from 11 overs.
Dejected by injuries and illnesses in recent months. Washington had missed India’s three T20Is against West Indies in February after suffering a hamstring injury in the third ODI in Ahmedabad.
He also missed the second half of the IPL in the United Arab Emirates last year after injuring his finger.
Meanwhile, slugger Rahul Tripathi’s injury, which forced him to retire injured midway through their pursuit against the Titans, is not a serious one.
After falling to the ground just after hitting a six, he needed medical attention.
“He’s fine, he’s just cramped,” Moody said.
“It’s wet conditions and we run him to the hot spots, so he covers a lot of ground in the first two or three overs.
“That’s something we might have to look at to make sure we get the most out of him at bat because obviously he’s a very valuable player for us.”
