IPL 2022: An unexpected season but unity in the squad will help Mumbai Indians bounce back, says Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma acknowledged it was an “unexpected season” for the five-time Indian Premier League champions, after finishing bottom of the IPL 2022, and added that “the unity in the team” was the biggest advantage of the team aiming to find their winning ways next season.
IPL 2022 turned out to be the worst season for Mumbai Indians as the team won only four league games and lost 10 to finish 10th and last. The Gujarat Titans took the lucrative league by storm, winning the title in their first year, with former Mumbai Indians all-rounder Hardik Pandya in the lead.

“It was an unexpected season, but we want to reflect on the learnings and the positives. It was great to see how the team came together and supported each other. Now it’s about how we look forward next season and how we prepare. We managed to finish with a bang and that was important for us. We will come back stronger,” said Sharma, taking stock of the season that just ended.

“The unity in the team is a good sign. I didn’t see any of them give up. We stuck together like a family. They gave their best in training and I’m proud of that. The camaraderie within the team was great, we had a goal and everyone was working towards it,” added Sharma, under whose leadership Mumbai won five IPL titles.

Sharma was also impressed with what he saw of the mindset of the youngsters. “Some of them are going to be gun players in the future. Raising their hands and giving their best has been the most enjoyable part of the season. They are strong mentally and have that hungry. A lot of them were playing for the first time so it was our job to make them feel comfortable. Management support is crucial here and I’m glad to know we have it. They gave us freedom and support and I can see a bright future for the team,” Sharma concluded.
