Indian star of Asian Cup qualifying campaign Ashique Kuruniyan joins ATKMB on five-year contract | Soccer News



KOLKATA: Indian midfielder Ashique Kuruniyanone of the stars of the country’s Asian Cup qualifying campaign, joined Indian Super League side ATK Mohun Bagan on Monday on a five-year deal.
The club have announced the arrival of Kuruniyan from Bengaluru FC as well as that of Asish Rai of FC Hyderabad.
Kuruniyan, 25, impressed with his speed and creativity in the recent Asian Cup Qualifiers here. India had topped Group D to secure a place in the main tournament for successive editions, a first for the country.

“I have experience of playing at junior level in Europe (FC Villarreal C). The infrastructure in Kolkata is excellent. Every footballer’s dream is to play in Kolkata,” said the Kerala-born footballer.
“A few days ago when I came to play for the country at Salt Lake Stadium, I saw the passion and interest people have here for football. I can’t wait to put on the green and brown jersey.” , he said, joining ATKMB.
Known for his ability to play on both the wing and the side, Kuruniyan comes from Bengaluru FC who he joined in 2019 from Pune City. He is a product of Pune Academy.
Rai, who rose to prominence under coach Manolo Marquez at Hyderabad FC, played for Indian age group teams.
“It was always my dream to play for ATKMB and I haven’t looked back after getting the offer,” Rai said.
