India vs Ireland: Five Indian players to watch | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: With a second string led by Hardik PandyaIndia are set to take on Ireland in a two-game T20I series in Dublin on June 26-28.
But with the next edition of the T20 World Cup approaching, performances in this series will not go unnoticed and every player will be looking to give their best to secure a possible place for the showpiece event. Take a look here at five Indian players to watch in the series:
Omran Malik (Best – Fast Right Arm)

Jammu’s Tearaway guard Umran Malik grabbed the headlines and wowed everyone with his fast and furious bowling game for Sunrisers Hyderabad at IPL 2022.
With more than 150 km/h consistently, Umran won 22 wickets in the 14 matches he played for SRH last season. And he was quickly drafted into India’s squad for the T20I series against South Africa.
But Umran was left without a game as India drew 2-2 in the five-game series (the decider was knocked out).
Nonetheless, with some of India’s pacers preparing for the single test against England and some nursing injuries, Umran will consider a possible Indian debut in Ireland where the conditions and locations would suit his raw pace.
Rahul Tripathi (Best Order Batter – Right Hand Batter)

Rahul Tripathi got his first summons to the Team India team based on strong performances with the bat in more than one IPL season. It also had a good release in 2022.
Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tripathi scored 413 points in 14 games with three halves last season. He was the second top scorer for SRH.
Tripathi has been one of the most consistent uncapped IPL players over six seasons, with the 2022 edition for Sunrisers Hyderabad being his finest.
Tripathi has always played in the IPL and also for his Maharashtra national team and has the distinction of twice hitting six sixes in an over in local tournaments.
Tripathi has 2,540 first-class runs in 47 matches so far and also captained Maharashtra in domestic cricket.
Deepak Hooda (Allrounder – Right hand bat, right arm off-break)

All-around hitter Deepak Hooda was named in India’s squad for the T20I series against South Africa, but didn’t get a match.
Hooda played 3 T20Is for India, against Sri Lanka earlier this year, but he only struck once in the series in which he scored 21 runs.
The 27-year-old had a good IPL while playing for debutants Lucknow Super Giants, scoring 451 points in 15 games at a 136.66 strike rate with four fifty under his belt.
Hooda will need to find big scores with the bat and also play the ball regularly to cement his place in the Indian team going forward.
Arshdeep Singh (Bowler – Medium Fast Left Arm)

Left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh took just 10 wickets in the 14 games he played for Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2022 but it was his save rate of 7.70 that prompted the selectors nationals to name him in the squad for the T20I series against South Africa. .
But with India preferring to enter with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Avesh KhanArshdeep was unable to play a match against the Proteas.
Despite being in the shadow of big names, Arshdeep has made his mark as a death specialist over the past two IPL seasons for the Punjab franchise.
Arshdeep’s kill save rate of 7.58 is only behind that of Jasprit Bumrah (7.38) for bowlers who bowled at least eight times in the past season. After starting the 2022 IPL season on a forgettable note with five wide, Arshdeep bounced back to outplay most of the prolific hitters in world cricket.
With Umran Malik also in the team, it will be interesting to see if the team management gives Arshdeep his Indian cap. There are a total of four point guards in the 17-man squad for India – Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik.
Venkatesh Iyer (Allrounder – Bat left hand, middle right arm)

Venkatesh Iyer has played 9 T20Is for India so far but hardly managed to put in a standout performance. In those 9 games, Iyer has a best of 35 unbeaten which was scored against West Indies in Kolkata earlier this year.
Iyer was in India’s squad for the recent T20I series against South Africa, but didn’t reach the Indian XI.
In the 12 matches Iyer played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022, he scored 182 points at a strike rate of 107.69 with just half a century under his belt.
But selectors were impressed with his skills, especially his power prowess. When Hardik Pandya was on the sidelines, Iyer was the designated all-rounder Team India chose.
Iyer will know that going forward he will have to make the most of every opportunity that comes his way, especially at a time when there is incredible competition for a place in Team India, especially in the most short. It will be interesting to see if Iyer can really make it count if he makes the cut XI in the upcoming series against the Irish.
