This week, the House will vote on its first comprehensive allotment bill, the Invest in America Act, which contains 1,473 allocations.
A total of 214 Democrats and 105 Republicans submitted applications for project funding. For Democrats, 1,067 projects have been approved for a total of $ 3.96 billion, and for Republicans, 405 projects will receive $ 1.70 billion.
The allotments represent $ 5.66 billion of the $ 547 billion surface transportation and water infrastructure reauthorization bill, and Rep. If an affected project is truly worthy of taxpayer funding, then it should be offered individually on the floor of the House or as a competitive subsidy. Every taxpayer dollar is sacred and should be treated that way. If this Congress really believed it, then we should eliminate this spending on pork barrels . “
The House transport and infrastructure committee is expected to vote on Budd’s amendment on Tuesday evening.
President Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., Said in a statement earlier this month that he was proud of the inclusion of postings in the bill. “With our process reforms to ensure transparency and local support, it was certainly not an easy or quick task for our committee to review thousands of submissions. But it was well worth giving elected officials a chance to. directly defend the name of their districts in our surface transport bill.
Democratic-majority states are expected to reap twice as many benefits as those led by Republicans, according to a Bloomberg government analysis, and the bill is unlikely to garner much Republican support.
The reauthorization bill moves upstairs in the House days after President Biden announced an infrastructure deal with a bipartisan group of senators.
The Invest in America Act would authorize more than $ 200 billion in funding for public transportation and emissions reduction initiatives. Republicans say he is spending too much on climate measures and to increase funding for financially struggling Amtrak.
