Republican House Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy on Saturday became the last and highest elected Republican to call on Dr Anthony Fauci to step down as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
“The American people do not trust Dr. Fauci,” McCarthy told the Breitbart News radio show on Saturday. “Let’s find someone we can trust. Put politics aside, I mean we’re talking about American life here.”
When asked by the interviewer if that meant “you think he has to go,” McCarthy said yes.
“Yes, because you don’t trust him,” he replied.
Fauci, who led NIAID for decades, through the presidents of both parties, is now also the White House’s chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden.
In calling for his ouster, McCarthy joins Sens. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Who called on the doctor to step down on Friday, and Marco Rubio, R-Fla., Who called on Biden to fire Fauci in a Fox News operation. ed published Saturday morning.
Other House Republicans calling for Fauci’s departure include Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., And Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, whose latter introduced a bill in May that would force the top specialist government infectious diseases from.
SEN. MARCO RUBIO: IF BIDEN BELIEVES IN SCIENCE, HE MUST READ FAUCI
Fauci’s resignation requests follow revelations that the U.S. National Institutes of Health sent funding to the Chinese Institute of Virology in Wuhan, which may have been the starting point for the initial outbreak of COVID-19.
“It doesn’t take a vivid imagination to grasp human infallibility, or to wonder why a coronavirus pandemic might first erupt in the exact same city that housed a lab specifically studying this class of viruses,” Rubio wrote. “Some scientists were cautious about staying open to a range of possibilities, but others, like Dr Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, dismissed the idea that the virus could have originated from a laboratory. It was a massive failure of judgment for a prominent public health official. “
In a daily press briefing earlier this week, however, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said she could not imagine any circumstance in which Biden would fire Fauci.
Yet Fauci’s emails obtained by Buzzfeed News under the Freedom of Information Act also drew criticism.
WALL STREET JOURNAL EDITORIAL: ‘REASONABLE TO ASK’ WHY FAUCI HAS BEEN SLOW TO ACCEPT THE THEORY OF CORONAVIRUS LABORATORY LEAKS
In an email from February 2020, before the outbreak turned into a pandemic, Fauci wrote that wearing a face mask at the airport would not help protect his carrier from the virus.
“The typical mask you buy at the drugstore is not really effective in keeping you out [the] virus, which is small enough to pass through material, ”he wrote. “It could, however, offer a slight advantage in[ing] large droplets if someone coughs or sneezes on you. I do not recommend wearing a mask. “
The masks work best when worn by infected people to prevent them from spreading their own germs to healthy passers-by, he said.
Another email from Dr Peter Daszak – head of the nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance that helped fund research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology – thanked Fauci for rejecting the theory of lab leaks .

Fauci later said that at the time he believed the virus most likely jumped onto humans from an animal, but did not rule out that it may have escaped the lab. The possibility that he intentionally or accidentally escaped the institute of virology was widely dismissed by public academics, Democrats, and the mainstream media as a crazy theory for months – until May, forcing the Biden administration to take it seriously.
Davidson’s Fauci incompetence law requires early termination, or FIRED law, would place a 12-year term limit on the leadership of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Fauci has had this role since 1984.

“Americans have had decades of leadership from Dr. Fauci, and he has not publicly responded appropriately to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Davidson said at the time. “It’s time for him to step down so the new leaders can ‘follow the science’ and start reopening America.”
