MUMBAI: The sudden disappearance of Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds has shocked sports fans around the world, including Bollywood film stars Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal, who remembered the versatile player for his passion for the game.
Symonds, who was affectionately known as “Roy”, died aged 46 in a car crash on Saturday night in Queensland. The cricketer is survived by his wife and two children.

Dutt said he was “deeply shocked” by the news of the sports star’s untimely death.
“Deeply shocked to hear of one of cricket’s best #AndrewSymonds. Thoughts & prayers with his family. God bless his soul. RIP Caption!” he wrote on Twitter.

Calling Symonds a ‘tremendous competitor’, Akhtar said the cricketer’s passing was nothing short of ‘heartbreaking’ for cricketer fans who still have to deal with the deaths of Australian legends Shane Warne and Rodney Marsh in March.
“In a heartbreaking series for Australian cricket fans and cricket fans everywhere. RIP #AndrewSymonds.. a formidable competitor who in his time could turn any game upside down. condolences to the family,” he said. he tweeted.

Rampal wrote: “Too sad, woke up to this tragic news of Andrew Symonds, fatal car accident. Prayers and condolences to his family. #RIPAndrewSymonds”.

An offensive hitter, who could also roll at both medium pace and spin and an outstanding defender, Symonds featured in 26 Tests, 198 ODIs and 14 T20Is during a successful career between 1998 and 2009.
He helped Australia win the ODI World Cups in 2003 and 2007 and was a key member of Australia’s Test squad in the 2000s.
Filmmaker Nilamadhab Panda said Symonds’ death was a huge loss for everyone in cricket.
“Really saddened, deeply saddened to hear of the tragic accident of #AndrewSymonds, my deepest condolences to the family and the fans, a huge loss for everyone in cricket.”

Actor Rahul Bose said, “Tragic. Too soon. RIP.”

Actress Saiyami Kher, a cricketer herself, said “Oh my god no #AndrewSymonds”.
