Hillary Clinton has shut down all speculation that she could run for president again in 2024, calling such a campaign “out of the question”.

Clinton sat down for an interview with the Financial Times in which she discussed her own political career, the Biden presidency, former President Donald Trump and the 2024 presidential race.

When asked if she intended to race again, Clinton strongly opposed a return to racing.

“No, out of the question,” she told the Financial Times. “First of all, I expect Biden to run. He certainly intends to run. It would be very disruptive to challenge that.”

Clinton said the most important issue moving forward was the next election, trumping any other social or economic policy debate. She called the prospect of a Republican president in 2024 “so scary” that nothing helps Democrats win a non-priority.

“We’re about to lose our democracy, and then everything that everybody cares about disappears,” Clinton said. “Listen, the most important thing is to win the next election. The alternative is so scary that anything that doesn’t help you win shouldn’t be a priority.”

The Washington Post reported on Friday that Biden could announce his re-election bid in the spring of 2023 and the Democratic National Committee is not planning a primary debate schedule, under the influence of Biden’s team who want to project strength despite the low number of polls.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre laughed off a question Monday about Biden’s physical and mental well-being during an interview with CNN’s Don Lemon.

“Does the president have the stamina, physically and mentally, do you think to carry on even after 2024?” Lemon asked.

“Don, you ask me this question,” exclaimed a visibly stunned Jean-Pierre. “Oh my God. It’s the President of the United States.” The publicist then laughed and told Lemon that she, 47, sometimes has trouble keeping up with Biden, 79. She added that Lemon’s question was not one “we should even be asking.”

Clinton also publicly stated that Trump, given the chance, would run for president again. The former secretary of state said she believes her decision whether or not to run will be based on financial gain.

“I think if he can, he’ll run again,” Clinton said in the interview. “Follow the money with Trump – he raised about $130 million in his bank account which he used to travel, to fund the organization against the election…I don’t know who will challenge him in the Republican primary.”
