Heroic grandmother grabs hanging baby and fell 15 feet from window

Nice catch, granny!

Svetlana Sanarova, 64, was walking home from a supermarket in the Russian town of Novokuznetsk on July 21 when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a toddler hanging on a second floor window.

The grandmother dropped her bags and rushed to the window with her arms outstretched.

And she arrived just in time.

CCTV revealed that she caught the boy named Egor after he fell from 15 feet. Egor’s father, Dmitry Teryokhin, 27, ran to pick up his son after Sanarova’s saving act.

“I thought if I didn’t catch him he would crash right in front of my eyes,” Sanarova said, according to the East2West news service. “I needed to run and catch up, otherwise it would be a lot worse. It turned out to be pretty heavy, but I didn’t think about the risk at the time.”

Teryokhin then thanked her but did not ask for her name. The heroic grandmother left the scene and walked over to her bench. It took six days for her to be identified and honored by authorities after numerous posts on social media.

Teryokhin had thought that his wife was taking care of the boy, although she went to get a bottle for their other child. The couple have a 4-year-old daughter and 18-month-old twins – the boy who fell and his sister.

In exchange for his deed, Teryokhin gave him 1,000 rubles, or $ 13.56. However, she refused to accept the money “because it offended me.” Teryokhin put the rubles in her bag, although she admitted: “I don’t need them.”

“I didn’t think of any risk. I was only afraid he would die,” she told the Ruptly news agency. “And then I got worried about what had happened to him, until I read in the newspaper that he got away with only minor bruises.”
