A political group backed by George Soros threw more than $100,000 behind a prosecutorial candidate in Little Rock, Arkansas, according to online records.

Financial records show the Arkansas Justice and Public Safety PAC was formed in late April, with Soros as its exclusive funder.

Of the $321,000 Soros has donated to the organization, more than $106,000 has gone towards supporting Alicia Walton, a former public defender running for the vacant Sixth Judicial District prosecutor’s office. The district covers Perry and Pulaski counties, which includes the state capital, Little Rock.

The funding was a much needed boost for Alton who raised less than $20,000. His contestant, Will Jones, raised around $144,000.

The money that the Arkansas Justice and Public Safety PAC has spent so far has been spent on research, polls and consultation on Walton’s behalf. That included about $40,000 for running ads on seven Little Rock stations, the Arkansas Times reported.

Watson, a public defender, told Black Consumer News that she would bring her experience in the criminal justice system — both as a prosecutor and as a victim of crime — to the position she seeks.

“With this experience in mind, I will work to empower victims, dismantle the school-to-jail pipeline, provide a pathway for people with mental health and addiction issues. It’s time for the justice system criminal justice works for all of us,” she says.

According to his website, Walton is a United States Marine Corps veteran and “helped establish the Pulaski County Veterans Treatment Court.”

Republicans in Arkansas rushed over news of Soros’s involvement in the prosecutorial race.

“Crime is rising in the nation where Soros funded Das and where prosecutors rule,” the group wrote in a statement. “Now that crime is on the rise in Little Rock, Soros is turning his attention and his money to running Central AR prosecutors, backing Alicia Walton.
