Garth Brooks was “scared to death” of his musical comeback after a 14-year hiatus: “The country is the best”


Garth Brooks may have made his musical comeback after a 14-year hiatus, but that doesn’t mean the country singer wasn’t nervous about it.

At least, that’s what he told Gayle King in an interview with CBS This Morning on Friday.

According to Brooks, he was “scared to death” when he decided to return to music. But, to his surprise, he found that “the people were so nice.”

Brooks, 59, is said to have taken a hiatus from the music scene to raise his three daughters: Taylor Mayne Pearl, 28; Auguste Anna, 27 years old; and Allie Colleen, 24.

The country music icon has won over 90 awards for her songs, including “If Tomorrow Never Comes”, “The Dance” and “Friends in Low Places”.

Since its debut in 1989, Brooks has sold more than 157 million copies of its 16 studio albums, two live albums and 51 singles, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. His work has also earned dozens of gold, diamond and platinum certifications from the registration association.

Brooks’ latest album was released in November 2020 and is titled “Fun”. The 14-track album peaked at no. 7th on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart in December.

As the best-selling returning artist, Brooks has sold six of the seven concerts he had planned for the summer so far.

Speaking of his surprise at being greeted so easily by country music fans, Brooks told CBS he’s not sure he can step in where he left off.

“The country music audience has given you everything. Now you just ask them, ‘I’m going to come home and raise my babies,’” he told King. “The big surprise was never to think, you’re going to be able to come home. Because when you don’t know why they’re showing up, you don’t know if they’ll show up again.”
