French Minister of Education declares war on American “wokeism”

The French government has declared war on “wokeism” imported from the United States, with the education minister warning that leftist ideology is what has contributed to the rise of former US President Trump.

“The [French] The Republic is totally against wokeism, ”French Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer said in an interview with Le Monde last week, according to a Politico translation. “In the United States, this ideology provoked a reaction and led to the rise of Donald Trump.

“France and its youth must escape this,” he said.

Blanquer heads a new government think tank, Le Laboratoire de la République, which is tasked with promoting the French brand of secularism and rejecting enlightened ideology – an extreme form of political correctness that focuses on societal injustices, particularly the racism.

French secularism, on the other hand, transcends race, gender and religion and is truly egalitarian, Politico reported.

“Our country has become the target of the awakening movement,” Pierre Valentin, an expert on the think tank, said when it launched last week, Politico reported. “If there was a vaccine against the awakened virus, it would be French and the leaders of the movement know it.”

“We are getting red flags from academic staff telling us that funds are being funneled into a number of theories,” MP Aurore Bergé said, Politico reported. “There is the feeling here that [freedom of] thought is reduced to a vision which is not ours. “

French President Emmanuel Macron is running for re-election in April and conservative commentator Eric Zemmour has been presented as a possible anti-establishment opponent in the race, although he has not officially declared his candidacy. Zemmour has adopted comparisons of himself with Trump.

Macron, who has been criticized by French progressives, told Elle magazine last summer that waking culture was “racializing” French society, Zenger News reported earlier this month.

“I see that our society is gradually becoming racialized,” he said at the time.

Several members of his government also shared anti-awakening views, including Elisabeth Moreno, the French Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity.

“Awake culture is very dangerous, and we shouldn’t bring it to France,” she told Bloomberg News in May.
