Foreign Funding Violation: CBI Raids 40 Locations; MHA officials, NGOs under the spotlight | India News


NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids on Tuesday at 40 locations linked to NGO representatives, their intermediaries and Home Ministry officials for allegedly facilitating the violation of foreign funding rules .
The CBI said hawala transactions worth Rs 2 crore have been detected in the raids so far.
It was detected during the operation that several MHA officials, NGO representatives and intermediaries exchanged money to facilitate foreign donations in violation of the FCRA, 2010, they said.
So far, the agency has apprehended around six people, including MHA officials and NGO representatives in connection with the case, they said.
The coordinated operation on alleged FCRA violations is underway in several locations including Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Mysore and some places in Rajasthan, they said.
Agency officials said the nationwide raids were carried out based on information provided by the Union Home Ministry.
