Five-year-old boy kills eight-year-old brother in ‘tragic accident’ at home in US | American News

A five-year-old boy fatally shot his eight-year-old brother in a ‘tragic accident’ at an American home.

After a 911 call on Thursday afternoon, sheriffs attended a home in Jefferson County, Arkansas, to find an “unresponsive” child inside.

The county coroner was called and the child was pronounced dead.

Four other siblings and the mother were thought to be inside the house when the fatal shot was fired.

Investigators believe it was an accident.

Sheriff Lafayette Woods said: “This is a tragic incident that could have been avoided.

“I can’t stress enough that firearms should be well secured and kept out of reach and out of reach of children at all times.

“Gun owners who don’t properly secure their guns are only a fraction of a second away from one of these tragedies occurring in their homes.”

According to statistics from the Brady Campaign, a nonprofit group that campaigns for gun control, every day 321 people are shot in the United States, 111 of whom are killed.

Of these, 22 children and teenagers were killed.

In May, 19 children and two staff were killed by school dropout Salvador Ramos in an elementary school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

The Arkansas Department of Social Services was notified of the shooting, social workers arriving to assess the well-being of children living at the home, and other conditions.

Family members could be seen gathering outside the house as deputies continued their investigation at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed.
