Eriksen scores on Parken’s return after Euro heart attack | Soccer News

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – Christian Eriksen scored a brilliant goal in his triumphant return to the Parken Stadium where he nearly died of a heart attack at Euro 2020 last June, netting Denmark’s third goal in a victory 3-0 in a friendly against Serbia on Tuesday.
Eriksen, who scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute against the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Saturday, was guaranteed a warm welcome at the stadium which fell into shocked silence when he collapsed on the grass during a Euro 2020 group game against Finland.
Joakim Maehle put the Danes ahead with a deflected shot in the 15th minute and Jesper Lindstroem added a second eight minutes after the break as the home side took advantage of the better chances.
Captaining the team, Eriksen gave the vocal Danish crowd what they wanted in the 57th minute, clipping his right foot and firing home a sparkling drive at the opposite end of the pitch where he collapsed.
Still developing his fitness after restarting his club career at Brentford in the English Premier League in February, the crowd chanted Eriksen’s name as he was replaced in the 80th minute by Kasper Schmeichel embracing Eriksen on the head as he put on the captain’s armband. .
Having failed to register a single shot on target until the 88th minute, the Serbs will hope they can improve their wayward shooting before the two teams head to the World Cup final in Qatar, which begins in November.
